On December 1st, 1866, 160,000 people walked across the Roebling Bridge - the longest suspension bridge in the world at that time - setting the stage for other iconic feats of engineering like the Brooklyn Bridge. In 1867, it officially opened to traffic, forever changing the skyline and spirit of our city.
